LSAW VS SSAW CASING. THE ULTIMATE BATTLE FOR THE BEST STEEL CASING
LSAW VS SSAW CASING. Which is the best type of steel pipe casing to use? This article might specifically answer the debate.
Steel casings are pipe enclosure of the concrete foundation. The most common steel casings are made by using submerged arc welding (SAW). Steel sheets or plates are rolled in circular profile then a welding rod will be feed along the seam submerge in flux
The two most common manufacturing methods for steel pipe casing are Longitudinal Submerged Arc Welding (LSAW) and Spiral Submerged Arc Welding (LSAW).
As the name implies LSAW uses a straight longitudinal weld to fuse the edges of rolled plates together. The hot-rolled plate is bend either in JO-ing or UO-ing manner. Then the edges will be fused using submerged arc welding.
On the other hand, SSAW or spiral pipes can only be done using automatic feed rolling and welding. Furthermore, a long hot rolled steel coil (HRSC) is continuously rolled in a circular motion. An automatic welding machine will then fuse the edges of the coil. To illustrate, see the picture on the right.

Therefore, the best type of steel casing to use depends on one’s requirement.
