STEEL GRADES USED FOR STEEL BORED PIPE CASING IN THE PHILIPPINES
There are various steel grades used in pipe casing of bored piles. The most common standard we can refer to is the ASTM international standard, for instance.
Countries that produce steel have their own regulating bodies. Moreover, these bodies typically publish their own standard on different kinds of steel depending on usage. These rich countries are America, European Union, Japan, China, Russia, and etc.

In America, for example, the regulating body which we can refer to is the American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM). Under ASTM, we have ASTM A252. This is the set of standards on Specification for Welded and Seamless Steel Pipe Piles. The steel grade for bored casing falls under this. There are three (3) different steel grades under this standard, these are Grade 1, 2, and 3. The primary variable we need to look at among these steel grades is the yield strength capacity. Firstly, Grade 1 which is the weakest has a yield strength of 205MPa minimum. Secondly, Grade 2, the most common steel grade we used in the Philippines has a 240MPa minimum. The strongest is Grade 3 which has a 310MPa minimum.
Other manufacturers and designers adapt other steel standards under ASTM. Among these are ASTM A53 for “Specification for Pipe, Steel, Black and Hot-Dipped, Zinc-Coated, Welded and Seamless” and ASTM A139 for “Specification for Electric-Fusion Arc-Welded Steel Pipe”. High steel grades are sometimes used in higher sophisticated offshore projects. It can be ASTM A572 or Specification for High-Strength Low-Alloy Columbium-Vanadium Structural Steel.
These standards more often have corresponding equivalent to other countries. The steel grades on these standards can also use as an alternative. You can consult the below chart for simplification. Those highlighted steel grades are the most common steel grade available and is being used locally.

INTERNATIONAL STEEL STANDARD
For steel pipe casing, the main factor we consider is the Yield Strength Capacity, but it not all the time. For instance, percentage elongation is one of the characteristics we need to see when we are designing, we want the structure to be more earthquake resistive.
