WHAT IS ANCHORING TIE-ROD?
Anchor tie-rods are steel materials used to enforce tension resistance on two opposite structures. They are normally installed on a retaining wall to prevent bending or deflection. One end of the rod is attached to an anchorage and the other end to the retention wall.
Furthermore, anchoring tie-rod is made up of high tension steel of different grades and diameters depending on the design of the structure. Local steel grades are normally SAE1045 and AISI4140, for instance. However, the higher grade can also be available if desired.
The main parts of the anchor tie-rods are the rod, anchor plate, and the anchor nut. However, if the longer length is desired, a coupler can be integrated into the middle of the rod. To enforce additional tension, we can use a turnbuckle instead of a coupler.
Very long tie-rods can experience the danger of bending once the soil is backfilled. To prevent this bending, ring joint assembly can be integrated within the rod. It is composed of several parts namely the eye joint, ring joint plate, ring joint washer, ring joint pins, and ring joint nut.
